![]() While cowboy-centered ministries have existed since the late 1890s, contemporary cowboy churches experienced a notable resurgence in the early 2000s with the establishment of the American Fellowship of Cowboy Churches (AFCC) in Texas. ![]() Church events frequently incorporate rodeo culture and take the form of pasture ropings, arena events, or cowboy play days. Typically located in rural areas, these churches exist in rustic settings, such as roping arenas and stockyards. "Cowboy church" is the preferred term for Protestant churches that utilize cowboy culture as an outreach tool to minister to unchurched members of the community who connect with western heritage. With this simple invocation, the pasture roping at the local cowboy church is now underway. He reads to them from the Bible of the wondrous changes brought by the Lord and then invites them to church the next day.
